Workshop description
Proofreading oversights are embarrassing for the writer and distracting for your readers. This 3-hour module reviews the most common proofreading errors in business writing in the areas of sentence construction, grammar, punctuation and spelling. It will assist you to identify your own particular strengths and weaknesses in this final stage of writing through a simple diagnostic tool. In addition, the workshop focuses on strategies for proofreading systematically.
Workshop outcomes
At the end of this module, you will return to your workplace with:
- A simple proofreading diagnostic tool to share with colleagues
- An improved ability to recognise and avoid some of the more common business grammar, spelling and punctuation errors
- Efficient strategies for proofreading documents

- The importance of proofreading
- Correct sentence formation
- Commonly confused words
- Standard punctuation usage (eg commas, apostrophes, colons, semicolons)
- Common grammatical errors (eg that/which)
- Proofreading strategies
