Managing the Briefing Process
Workshop Description
This half-day program provides an opportunity to explore management’s key role in the briefing process. It will focus on such issues as quality control, timeliness, staff development and supporting staff through coaching.
Workshop Outcomes
At the end of this workshop you will return to the workplace with:
- Heightened awareness of the manager’s critical role in staff development
- Knowledge of the main barriers to staff improvement
- Strategies for supporting and encouraging staff in their efforts to improve their skill base
- Strategies for offering constructive and timely feedback
- Valuable job aids such as a quality control checklist
Program Delivery
The program is largely an interactive one in which sample briefs are analysed to highlight key teaching points. Participants also have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills learned by writing a brief based on case study notes.
Who Should Attend
This workshop is designed for departmental staff and managers (VPS 4-6) who have had some exposure to writing public sector documents such as briefings, submissions and PPQs who would like to further develop their skills in this area.
Facilitator
Ms Sheryl Ward is a qualified teacher and an experienced trainer. She has had extensive experience teaching business communication skills to adults both in Australia and South East Asia. She now runs her own independent training consultancy.
